Emergency Call Boxes

Emergency telephones, easily identified at night by their bright blue lights that can be seen from a significant distance away, are situated at strategic locations throughout the campus for emergency use. If you need to report a suspicious incident, medical emergency, or request immediate police assistance, simply activate an emergency phone by opening the box. You must then depress the red lever located inside each time you wish to speak. Once depressed, the call is directly linked to the DPS communications center, and your location is automatically detected. Speak clearly into the microphone while stating the exact nature of the emergency, and a DPS dispatcher will summon assistance to the location. In the event a caller does not respond or is unable to speak, an officer is immediately dispatched to investigate.

While the blue light call boxes are an effective tool in helping you in the event of an emergency, it is also smart to be prepared for situations where you might not be able to quickly reach a phone, such as when you are off campus. For those situations, you should program the number for DPS and GERMS (687-4357, or also 687-4343) into your cell phone so that it can be accessible to you instantly.
